catching up!!
It's hard to believe how fast September is flying by! The leaves are turning, almost overnight ... There are lots of new bolts of fabric in the shop, and we're gearing up for our semi annual Shop Hop! As I write this, I am in Ording WA, conducting a Murder Mystery Retreat for Wild Rose Quilt Shop. The girls are hard at work trying to figure out what they are making, while trying to figure out "who done it". Alicia, Diane, Cindy and Patty are keeping the home fires lit in my absense. They've threatened to have a big "Boss is Away" sale! (They're not).

Sorry I have not been blogging very much lately. We have been so busy at the shop, I'm not sure what end is up. Add to that my teaching engagement coming up in Orting, WA the end of this month and making samples for a new book and for shop hop Oct. 13,14, & 15 and you can see how time has gotten away from us.
New fabrics are coming in quite regularly including the following: Ricky Tims new line - Oodles of Doodles, Quilts of Valor including nice labels, Normandy by Benartex, Gifts of the Season including an Advent Calendar, New Fairy Frosts and Robert Kaufman Fusion colors and a cute line called Phat Cat Jazz.
We are introducing a new monthly event this month called Lunch and Learn. For $5 you get lunch and the pattern and we will do a demo on a fun, quick and easy project that will make a great gift. Any special tools required will be on special the day of Lunch and Learn. What a great way to get back into the fall sewing season and have a nice lunch out with friends at the same time!
On a sad note, Patty Jaqua, my sister in law, who many of you know as a teacher at Hollyhock Quilt Shop, lost her sister at around 11 PM last night. Cindy was just 50 years of age. She died of breast cancer after having been diagnosed only 5 weeks ago. It was a very aggressive form and the lump was not found until after the diagnosis. Please don't forget those annual mammagrams. Cindy had not neglected hers, but in the majority of cases they do help with early diagnosis. Our love and support goes out to Patty and her family.

I'm finding it a bit hard to type right now with Lucy the kitten Patty adopted from the shelter sitting on one arm. She seems to think I should let her type, too. Some terrible person dropped her in the drive thru at Tawas McDonalds. She is black and just 4 weeks old or so and weighs just 1 1/2 pounds. How she wasn't squashed by a car we don't know. She's such a little bitty bundle of joy!
I've gotten a bit behind on my blog. The shop has been VERY busy! We are getting more new fabric in each week. Last week we got 7 new bolts of Hoffman hand-dyeds and a nice assortment of blue and whites called Normandy. Next week we will be getting some new Fairy Frosts, the rest of our Quilts of Valor Fabric, and another Christmas line called Gifts of the Season. It has a very nice printed Advent Calendar perfect for the grandkids featuring Christmas in the forest with beautiful wildlife illustrations.
I am hard at work on my second book called Tilted Triangles which can be paper pieced or strip pieced with 2 templates which will be included in the book! We are very excited with this new endeavor .
Don't forget about the shop hop in mid October! Patty and I are working on two quilts for the hop - Hop Skip and a Jump into the Holidays. One will feature fall or Halloween fabrics and the other will feature Christmas fabrics. Kits will be available to choose from in both fabric collections. See you at the hop!
For those who are doing the Fiesta Block of the Month, the background is back in stock and we will be all caught up through August by the end of the day today. Remember to let us know if you need another fat quarter of any of the colors. You can get these at any time.

Well, best layed plans! I have the borders all finished on the Moda Mystery Quilt for the first half of the year EXCEPT for just a few 2 1/2" squares of the red on red paisley from Moda called Puzzle Pieces. If any of you out there have a 2 1/2" strip of that fabric you could spare, I would be greatly appreciative!!! Worst case scenario I will need to order a bolt - 12 yards - to finish up. It is a great red and another bolt would be nice, but there are things we need more right now at the shop.
The weather has been a bit better the last couple of days - not so hot. It is even raining a little right now which will be a great help to yards and gardens. My yard looks like I'm planning on making straw - not fit for any beast to munch on - it is so very dry.
Some of you may have heard we are collecting donations for Caroline Barrett. She had a house fire and lost lots of quilting supplies. I will add 20% to the value of the donations we receive so she can purchase anything she wants to replenish her stock. Both Caroline and her husband are doing well, but sadly all three cats perished in the smoke.

Another VERY HOT DAY! We have summer with a vengence. That will teach us to complain about the snow and cold!
The Kona Bay - Serenity II line arrived this morning and it is even more beautiful than I had remembered. WOW! I'm still trying to finish the borders on the Moda Mystery Quilt of Valor. They didn't get on yesterday completely. When it's this hot there's nothing better to do than to sit in front of a fan and sew! Hope all of you are doing the same.

Another VERY HOT DAY! Luckily the shop is fairly cool with all the fans going and the doors closed. We're waiting on new fabric to arrive today and the rest of the week. Due to arrive is Kona Bay's Serenity II a gorgeous line with cranes, wisteria, mums and iris. We are also expecting some of their eco bags - one with cats and one with whales - pretty neat! We are also expecting some Christmas fabric from South Seas and Moda which we won't put out on the shelves until we re-schedule the Christmas in July Event. It will be a surprise until then.
Today I hope to finish the borders on the first Moda Club Quilt of Valor Mystery, and, if time permits, finish the Double Cross blocks for our Someday Quilts Murder Mystery book club. If you missed club this month, stop in for a pattern. It's an interesting quilt and quite simple to make!
This year Patty and I decided to keep a log of the quilts each of us have finished since the beginning of the year. There is a column to check if we pieced it, quilted it, or both. So far I have pieced 7 and quilted 6 for a total of 9 quilts or tops finished. Try it! It's really inspiring to have a list over your sewing area showing your progress. I think we forget just how much we do accomplish with our quilting. I set a goal at the beginning to do at least one a month and I'm ahead of my goal!

Christmas In July
Hi Everyone!
Due to a couple of our suppliers falling down on the job, our new Chirstmas Fabric we requested to be shipped was not. Therefore there will be no Christmas in July tomorrow, Wed. July 20th. We will wait for the fabric to actually arrive and let you know by email when it will be. Sorry for the inconvenience. Needless to say we are unhappy, but these things happen with fabric shipments.
I think the time has come for me to have a "Blog"! At least that's what my WebMistress says, and I usually listen to her! My email list has gotten huge over time, and this is an easier way to keep you up to date on what's going on with the Shop.
